EKFH Funds $14,000 for new beds at Elk Valley Hospital
Fernie, BC… The Elk Valley Hospital recently welcomed the arrival of 2 new low profile beds thanks to $14,000 in funding from the East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH).
High beds are a safety concern. Lowering the bed helps promote patient safety and prevent falls. The new beds are also armed with alarms allowing for a quicker response time in cases of patients with a high fall risk.
Donna Grainger, EKFH Executive Director, “The ability to provide this funding is a direct result of donor support for EKFH’s unrestricted fund. When a gift is made for general purpose (area of greatest need) it allows the EKFH board of directors to allocate funding out to various areas of care whereas a restricted gift (i.e. renal, oncology, trauma care, etc.) limits the foundation’s ability to release funds other than to the purpose identified.”
Over the past several years EKFH has increased its attention on supporting medical equipment, patient comforts and/or education needs for all hospitals and health care facilities in the East Kootenay. In addition to its ongoing commitment to the ICU Redevelopment Capital Campaign, the annual Starlite Campaign, and general giving programs the EKFH board of directors approved to release $100,000 of a maturing GIC to help purchase many pieces of equipment in various community facilities. The new beds for the Elk Valley Hospital are part of that decision.
EKFH is a leader in publically supported health care fundraising, practicing responsible allocation of funds that ensures your money is going where it is needed. In the Elk Valley, EKFH works in collaboration with the Elk Valley Hospital Foundation to support the communities of Elkford, Sparwood & Fernie.
The foundation has also recently undergone a rebrand with a new vibrant website and growing Facebook presence. To learn more about your regional hospital foundation visit us at www.ekfh.ca or like us on Facebook.
