SUMMARY:Day of Giving - Creston Valley Hospital
DESCRIPTION:The East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) is proud to hold the 2nd Annual Day of Giving on December 13th at the Creston Valley Hospital from 11am-3pm. The EKFH will be set up in the main lobby spreading the spirit of the Holidays and their annual Starlite Campaign by accepting donations for Creston Valley Hospital’s tiniest patients. \nThe East Kootenay Foundation for Health is raising $35\,000 to purchase and isolette. An isolette is a specialized crib (incubator) that maintains a warm environment for a new baby and isolates him or her from germs. A baby\, especially a premature baby\, who cannot maintain body heat\, can be protected from drafts and cold in an isolette. Oxygen can also be administered to a newborn in an isolette without the use of a mask. The isolette can be life-saving for an infant waiting to be transferred to a larger centre. \nPlease stop by the Creston Valley Hospital on December 13th from 11am-3pm to donate! Everyone who donates on the Day of Giving will have their name will be entered into a draw to win a gift basket from Save On. The goal for December 13th is to raise $10\,000 to light up the star on top of the Creston Valley Hospital! \nIf you are unable to stop by on December 13th you are invited to make a holiday gift to the EKFH by calling 1-877-489-6481 or go online to ekfh.ca. The EKFH would like to thank all of their past and current donors and they look forward to having a successful 2019 Starlite Campaign!

SUMMARY:Day of Giving - East Kootenay Regional Hospital
DESCRIPTION:The East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) is proud to partner up with Rocky Mountain Collision for a Day of Giving on December 10th at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. The EKFH will be set up in the main lobby spreading the spirit of the Holidays by accepting donations for the SPECT CT. Rocky Mountain Collision heard about this fantastic initiative and offered to match donations dollar for dollar up to $10\,000 until December 10th! \nRocky Mountain Collision and the Thom family have been incredible supporters to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health\, donating $113\,400 since 2005. Chris Thom\, owner of Rocky Mountain Collision commented “We are all going to rely on regional health services to maintain and support our health at some point. The convenience of a SPECT CT will not only bring diagnosis closer to home\, it will enhance our quality of life by offering earlier detection and treatment. If you are considering how you can make an impact on healthcare in our region\, please consider donating to the SPECT CT campaign. To encourage your donation\, we will match your investment dollar for dollar up to ten thousand dollars on December 10th\, the Day of Giving.” \nChair of the Board\, Mike Calder added “On behalf of EKFH\, I would like to thank the Thom family for the extremely generous donation to the SPECT CT and kick off our Day of Giving. The SPECT CT will be the most impactful piece of equipment purchased for the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and will significantly improve health care for all residents in our area. The EKFH is focused on bringing this life saving piece of equipment to the East Kootenay so please support the Starlite Campaign to help us make this dream\, a reality.” \nThe funds from this year’s Starlite Campaign are going towards the purchase of a SPECT CT. The state- of-the-art SPECT CT scanner at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital will be the only equipment of its kind in the East Kootenay\, providing faster\, more definitive diagnosis of medical conditions. For patients\, it will reduce the anxiety of waiting for a full diagnosis and the commencement of treatment\, reducing time\, money\, travel expenses and stress. The SPECT CT combines a gamma camera with a CT scanner to create 3D images. It will be an incredible addition to diagnosis and set up treatment plans for cancer\, coronary artery disease\, kidney failure\, dementia\, infection\, fractures\, Parkinson disease and the list goes on! \n\n\n\n\nThe East Kootenay Regional Hospital is the only regional hospital in BC that doesn’t have a SPECT CT. Currently patients must travel to Kelowna to get this test done. The East Kootenay Foundation for Health’s 2019 Starlite Campaign is focused on raising $1.2 million to bring this to the residents of the entire East Kootenay Region. Please stop by the East Kootenay Regional Hospital on December 10th from 10am-4pm to donate! If you are unable to stop by on December 10th you are invited to make a holiday gift to the EKFH by calling 250-489-6481 or go online to ekfh.ca. The EKFH would like to thank all of their past and current donors and they look forward to having a successful 2019 Starlite Campaign!

SUMMARY:Starlite Campaign 2019
DESCRIPTION:Cancer\, coronary artery disease\, kidney failure\, dementia\, infection… the best results come from early detection. This is imperative! The East Kootenay Foundation for Health is raising $1.2 million to purchase a SPECT CT. This advanced\, life-changing piece of equipment will change the face of healthcare in the East Kootenay Region. Dr. Curtis Mohamed\, MD Nuclear Medicine\, explains the SPECT CT. “SPECT CT combines the 3 dimensional functional imaging of Nuclear medicine with the anatomical accuracy of CT. The merging of these modalities creates an advanced imaging technology that improves patient care by enhancing diagnostic accuracy”. Many medical conditions can be assessed by SPECT-CT including (but not limited to) staging and monitoring treatment in multiple forms of cancer (e.g.\, breast\, prostate and lung); determining the extent of infection and monitoring therapy\, and site-specific processes such as lung clots\, kidney function and bone fractures. The SPECT CT creates 3D images. Improved diagnostic confidence will lead to the patient getting the best and most appropriate treatment for his or her condition. \nThe state-of-the-art SPECT CT scanner at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital will be the only equipment of its kind in the East Kootenay\, providing faster\, more definitive diagnosis of medical conditions. For patients\, it will reduce the anxiety of waiting for a full diagnosis and the commencement of treatment\, reducing time\, money\, travel expenses and stress. If your life has been touched by cancer\, heart disease\, renal failure\, dementia\, and the list goes on\, you will truly understand the impact of having this state of the art diagnostic equipment. On behalf of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health\, I invite you to be part of this very important campaign. We need your support to make this a reality. To help\, we invite you to make a holiday gift to the EKFH\, purchase a star and light the way to help the East Kootenay Region become a leader in health care. \nTogether we can save lives! \nWith sincere appreciation\,\nBrenna Baker Executive Director \n\n PREVIOUS

SUMMARY:8th Annual EKFH Starlite Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Cranbrook\, BC…  On November 27 the roofline atop the East Kootenay Regional Hospital will welcome the annual lighting of stars as part of the 8th annual Starlite Campaign.   The Starlite Campaign is the signature holiday event of East Kootenay Foundation for Health. \nDonna Grainger\, Executive Director for EKFH reports that the pre-holiday fundraising drive is having a remarkable impact already with a record breaking start of $54\,526 in donations. \nThese donations are  lighting seven large stars:  (1) Billie’s Star (Eagles Nest RV Resort)\, (2) Eagles Nest RV Resort & Key City Old-Timers\, (3) Anonymous Donation\, (4 & 5) Margaret Delmont in memory of Ed Delamont\, (6) Elk Valley Thrift Shop and (7) The Madsen Family in memory of Gerhardt Madsen; and seven small stars:  (1 & 2) Anonymous donations\, (3) Kimberley Dynamiters\, (4\, 5\, 6 & 7) accumulated public donations to kick off the campaign. \nThis year’s campaign is raising funds for regional and community health programs with a  fundraising goal to raise $150\,000 to light 17 large stars ($5\,000 per star) and 24 small stars ($2\,500 per star).  These programs are dedicated to helping those with arthritis\, diabetes\, heart disease\, respiratory needs\, and more or for those that may require help with chronic disease management\, home nursing\, in-home oxygen\,  wound\,  senior\, pediatric  and self-care programs.  More often than not these programs have smaller equipment needs.  However the impact those pieces of equipment and patient education tools can deliver through these programs can often help people who wouldn’t have had anywhere else to turn to for assistance. \nWe all know life can change in an instant; it is comforting to know that donations made to EKFH will have a direct impact on the care available right here at home.Your donation plays a crucial role in EKFH’s mission to provide funding for the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and other community facilities in complementing the health care needs of the region. \nMaking a donation and spreading the word about our activities and the work we do will go a long way towards making a difference for your health\, your family\, your our friends\, your hospital and the health care facilities in your community.  To make a gift to the Starlite Campaign visit www.ekfh.ca.

SUMMARY:Go Blue for Breakfast!
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT WORLD DIABETES DAY \nWorld Diabetes Day (WDD) is celebrated every year on November 14. The World Diabetes Day campaign is led by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and its member associations. It engages millions of people worldwide in diabetes advocacy and awareness. World Diabetes Day was created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat that diabetes now poses. World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day in 2007 with the passage of United Nation Resolution 61/225. The campaign draws attention to issues of paramount importance to the diabetes world and keeps diabetes firmly in the public spotlight. \nWorld Diabetes Day is a campaign that features a new theme chosen by the International Diabetes Federation each year to address issues facing the global diabetes community. While the themed campaigns last the whole year\, the day itself is celebrated on November 14\, to mark the birthday of Frederick Banting who\, along with Charles Best\, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1921. \n  \nHealthy Living and Diabetes is the World Diabetes Day theme for 2014-2016.
