Golden’s Gatsby Gala raises $28,000 towards Durand Manor upgrades.
January 10, 2025
Long term care residents at Durand Manor are $28,000 closer to new furnishings this year thanks to the incredible efforts of everyone who supported Golden’s Gatsby Gala in November.
The event at the Rec Plex on November 16th was a glamorous night to raise funds for safe, accessible furniture upgrades at the care home. These upgrades will replace much of the mismatched and outdated furniture, of which a lot dates back to the home’s original construction in the early 1980s.
On behalf of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health, we want to thank all our sponsors, auction donors, attendees, volunteers, and entertainers for the fabulous evening. We also want to give a special thank you to Lindsay Sutton, Zoe Evans, and Christy Trafanako for all their hard work in organizing the gala.

About the Campaign:
Durand Manor has 28 beds providing long term care in the Golden area. It is one of the places where people spend the final years of their lives. Most residents are longtime Golden locals. The Manor is also home to some from across the East Kootenay who are waiting for space to open in their own communities.
Having a place that feels like home goes a long way towards giving residents, families, and caregivers the time and space for love, laughter, and joy at this stage in their life. However, the furnishings at Durand Manor are worn out, outdated, and frequently do not meet the needs of residents who require wheelchairs or other mobility aids. It is difficult for residents and families to feel like their final home is home when it’s a place they’re not always able to find safe places to sit at.
Competing priorities with acute and life saving care needs mean that long term care support is overlooked by provincial funding and donations. As such, the East Kootenay Foundation for Health needs to raise $100,000 for upgrades so the dining, lounge, and bedroom furniture at Durand Manor can be safe, modern, and consistent.
If you want to support the campaign, donations to Durand Manor can be made through ekfh.ca, calling 250-489-6481, or mailing a donation to East Kootenay Foundation for Health, 13 24th Ave N. Cranbrook BC, V1C 3H9.
Together, we can make long term care feel more like home.
