Financial Officer


Executive Director


The Financial Officer is the East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) senior financial professional and is responsible for the overall management of financial accounting, financial analysis and reporting, treasury (banking and investments), budgetary process management and internal controls in accordance with the mission, goals and policies of the Foundation.

The position directly supports and reports to the EKFH Executive Director.  The Director has responsibility for coordinating all financial issues and manages the preparation of all internal and external financial reports that are required to make informed decision at all levels.

The Financial Office is a member of the EKFH Finance Committee and is responsible for the design, implementation and provision of financial reporting systems so they may fulfill their oversight role of the financial management of the Foundation.

  • Monitor cash flow; EFT transfers
  • Investment activities
  • Monitor fund balances – endowment; restricted; unrestricted; special; capital
  • Ensure compliance with CRA charity policies and procedures.
  • Reconcile Sage software package with donor database on a monthly basis
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status
  • Liaise with Auditor, Investment Advisor, Insurance Co, Pacific Blue Cross Employee Extended Health, WCB, and Banks
  • Budget preparation responsibility
  • PST Refund
  • Payroll and T4
  • Maintain FCF Processes
  • Annual Insurance renewals
  • Annual T3010 filing
  • Finance Committee/Board reporting responsibilities
  • Special projects as required
  • Support Executive Director as required
  • Perform other duties as required


  • Relevant post-secondary degree or equivalent experience preferably in the charitable sector
  • Accounting degree, diploma or certificate an asset or equivalent experience preferably in the charitable sector
  • Ability to develop and maintain SAGE accounting software and work effectively with Excel, Word, Outlook and databases
  • Excellent attention to detail and passion for accuracy preparing and entering financial information
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to interpret financial or other information
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization and execution skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, results orientated, excellent work ethic, positive attitude, reliable and dependable
  • High level of integrity, accountability and ability to ensure confidentiality of data is maintained
  • Self-directed and organized with effective time management skills and ability to multitask while effectively managing competing demands
