Cranbrook, BC  Sometimes there can be nothing more amazing than the music of Beethoven played on a piano by a stunning pianist  with accompaniments from  an equally talented Symphony.  That is what awaits music lovers on October 23 at the Key City Theatre with the arrival of “A Beethoven Gala” by the Symphony of the Kootenays and piano soloist Sarah Aleem .

The evening brings forth another special moment as Ms. Aleem dedicates her performance fee to the Cranes of Hope a Legacy of Rod Osiowy,  a project by East Kootenay Foundation for Health and the Osiowy family.

Sarah shares, “I feel privileged and blessed to have known Rod as both a friend, mentor and teacher.  He was a truly inspirational human being that always brought the best out in his students .  I had the opportunity to work closely with him in my two years at Mount Baker, and I always admired his passion for the arts.  Rod was a strong believer and innovator in music and theatre, and he encouraged his students to continually open their minds to new ideas and concepts. “

“Rod always encouraged me to pursue a career in music, and I thank him immensely for that.  It’s so important for young people to have a strong support system from family, friends and teachers.  I know tht Rod had a tremendous influence on my life as well as my fellow students.  He taught us the importance of working together to achieve a common goal.  I am confident that his legacy will carry on for many generations,” adds Aleem.   Sarah is currently a second year student of Music & Sciences at McGill University in Montreal.

The Osiowy family implemented the Cranes of Hope idea of symbolically selling individual cranes for $100 each until all 1,000 are sold as fundraiser in honour of Rod.  Donations towards  a crane contribute to the quality of health care that we hold dear here in the East Kootenay, while  providing hope to patients and their families.  Funds derived from the Cranes of Hope are held in trust by East Kootenay Foundation for Health to enhance oncology services at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Donations can be made at the EKFH office at 13 24th Ave N, Cranbrook, BC V1C 3H9, via Canada Post or on-line through our secured website www.ekfh.ca – go to Donate Now, select Cranes of Hope a legacy of Rod Osiowy.
