Golden, BC….

Photo Details:  Wonders never cease especially when they come in all shapes and sizes.

For this story it is the big hearts of Golden residents Suzanne Struthers, an amazing teacher and Cam Dawes at Sobeys that decided to help some of the littlest wonders at a Preschool called Giant Steps.

When Suzanne realized that one of her student’s mother, Lisey Lalonde was one of the Faces of the A Clear View – digital mammography campaign for East Kootenay Foundation for Health; she knew she wanted to do something special to help in the fundraising.

With a glimmer of hope Suzanne approached Cam Dawes to see if Sobeys would partner with the Preschool to sell poinsettias as a Christmas fundraiser. Clearly the Christmas spirit is alive and well in Golden because without hesitation the answer was a definite yes.

So over the past few weeks, the Giant Steps Preschool have been encouraging the sale of these brightly coloured festive potted plants and thanks to community spirit a gift for mammography in the amount of $543.08 has been realized.

In an interview earlier this year, Lisey Lalonde shared, “I fought for my family—I want to see my kids grow up; I want to be there for my daughter when she brings her children into the world; I want to teach my son how to drive. That was it—the simple things.”

It seems the simple things have resonated with others too, EKFH wishes to acknowledge the support of Lisey and many others who may face a breast cancer diagnosis this year.

The 2-year fundraising goal is $1 million and to date, thanks to the generosity of so many, the campaign has a total of $556,500 in pledges and donations. To make a donation please visit www.aclearview.ca.
