Details: Thanks to the efforts of the local Walmart Charity Committee and their idea of a November Toy Drive the East Kootenay Regional Hospital pediatric’s unit toy cupboard has been given a great boost.   Carolin Hockley, Chair of the Committee shares, “What a great opportunity for our store to bring some joy into the lives of children who have to be in the hospital at this or any time of year. Helping stock the toy cupboard is something that we were so pleased to be able to do.”   Assisted by other Walmart employees, EKFH volunteers and Sara Jolie, RN for the Pediatric Unit and her family the team set up a donation box which was soon overflowing thanks to the generosity of the public.    When all was said and done  over $1,300 in cash donations and various toys including cars, puzzles, dolls, bubbles, crayons, arts and crafts and more were given. The cash donations will be transferred to gift cards for future toy purchases.   Just imagine the smile on the face of one of those sick kids who holds on gently to their toy giving them a sense of being a kid even though they are at the hospital.   Walmart will still accept toy donations. To do so simply drop off your gift with an attached receipt to the customer service desk to the attention of Carolin Hockley.     The Starlite Campaign for Excellence in Health Care if more than just the lighting of stars it about the gift of giving. Thank you Walmart.
