March 13, 2025
The Creston Lions Club supported the annual “Demetre’s No One Eats Alone at Christmas Dinner” in memory of Demetre Karountzos this year. The event provides a Christmas Dinner for those who want to spend time with others. This year’s served around 140 meals and raised $7500 from community donations and sponsors in support of the upcoming oncology and renal expansion at East Kootenay Regional Hospital. Funds came from donations from dinner attendees, support from the Creston Lions Club, and additional private donations.
No One Eats Alone is the proud legacy of Demetre who passed away from cancer in June 2024. Demetre was the proud chef and owner of Demetre’s Catering. His culinary talents and warm hospitality became the cornerstone of countless community events and family celebrations. His love for community and support of those in need will forever be missed.
The Creston Lions Club was proud to continue this event. Club Member Ken Sommerfeld said, “we strive to make our community a better place and sooner or later we or someone we know will need what we support.”
“The EKFH is very proud to be partners with the Creston Lions Club. They always support our local and regional projects. We couldn’t do the work we do without them. Demetre was also an amazing supporter of the EKFH” said East Kootenay Foundation for Health’s Executive Director, Brenna Baker. “On behalf of our staff and board, we are glad to see Demetre’s legacy carried on and honoured to be the recipient of these funds in support of a cause that meant a lot to him.”
