Fernie Rotary Club supports the Elk Valley Hospital
June 5, 2025
Fernie, BC — The Rotary Club of Fernie has proudly presented a generous gift of over $35,000 to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) in support of the Elk Valley Hospital. The funds were raised through the sold-out success of Feast for a Cause, held in April 2025.
Thirteen local Fernie-area restaurants came together to serve up creative and delicious small plates, showcasing the culinary talents of the community. Participating restaurants included: Bayleaf, Bootleg Bread, Bramasole, Bridge Bistro, Chilango Mexican, Elevated Plate Catering, Himalayan Spice Bistro, House of Gato, Nevado’s, Island Lake Lodge, Loaf Italian Restaurant, Park Place Lodge, and The Chopstick Truck.
Proceeds from the event will fund the purchase of a new fetal monitor, a vital piece of medical equipment used to track a baby’s heart rate and uterine contractions during labor. This technology plays a critical role in identifying any signs of fetal distress, ensuring safe delivery for both mother and child.
In addition, the remaining funds will support the purchase of a new bladder scanner for the Elk Valley Hospital. This non-invasive diagnostic tool uses ultrasound technology to accurately measure bladder volume and is instrumental in diagnosing urinary retention, post-operative complications, and other bladder-related issues.
“The team at the EKFH is so proud to partner with the Fernie Rotary Club to supply this much-needed funding to the Elk Valley Hospital,” said Brenna Hong, Executive Director of the East Kootenay Foundation for Health. “Thank you to the Fernie Rotary Club, all of the volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, donors, and attendees for making Feast for a Cause 2025 an amazing success. We could not do the work we do without you!”
Cindy Pearson, President of the Fernie Rotary Club, also expressed gratitude for the incredible community support that made this initiative possible, “Feast for a Cause is a testament to what our community can achieve when we come together with purpose. The support from local restaurants, sponsors, and residents is inspiring. We are so proud to see these funds directly enhancing care at the Elk Valley Hospital—it’s a powerful reminder of the impact local giving can have on local health.”
