
This Starlite Season we are raising $1,000,000 to purchase a state-of-the-art mammography machine with advanced AI capabilities for East Kootenay Regional Hospital. This new technology will significantly enhance breast cancer screening and early detection through advanced 3D imaging, providing improved visualization of breast tissue and helping reduce the risk of missed cancers, particularly in dense breast tissue. It will also support faster diagnosis, increase patient capacity, and offer improved comfort for patients. This equipment will help save lives and improve breast health outcomes throughout the East Kootenay. It will bring:

It is estimated that about 1 in 8 women in Canada will develop breast cancer during their lifetime and 1 in 35 will die from it.
Survival rates are better than 90% when diagnosed at stage 1.
Breast cancer can also occur in men – in 2026, it is estimated 300 men in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 60 will die from breast cancer.
