Swan Valley Lodge, located in Creston, is the largest long term care home in the Interior Health East Kootenay Region. This essential service is for people who can no longer be cared for in their own homes or in an assisted living residence.

We are all aware of the shortage of funds for Health Care in BC. Long term care homes are often put on the back burner. This is not because the needs they have aren’t urgent, it just means other equipment is prioritized over them. Swan Valley is no exception. If you have ever had to have a family member or friend reside at Swan Valley you will know how wonderful the staff are, and you will know that your loved ones are being treated as family, and they are safe and well cared for.

What is missing at Swan Valley Lodge? Comfortable rooms for the residents. Most of the furniture is over 20 years old and is worn out and not acceptable to have in the home of our loved ones. Swan Valley is home to 90 seniors who have been part of our communities for many years. They have given in so many different ways over the years and now it’s time for us to give back. They deserve better!

Furnish a Life Well Lived is our recent campaign that is raising $180,000 to replace the bedroom furniture in every single room in Mountain View Terrace and the Harris units. Furniture is one thing that seems to be always overlooked and something that there will never be funding for. The cost is $3000 per residential room to replace with hospital grade, senior friendly furniture. Hospital grade is more expensive because they need to be up to code with infection control. They also need to be safe so they have rounded corners and other safety features.

Give the gift of comfort, sponsor a room and help a senior feel at home. Every little bit helps. So if you can give $30 or $3000 you are helping to improve care. If you sponsor a room at $3000 a plaque will be installed in a room in your honour or in memory of a loved one.
