Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary donates $45,000 to complete EKFH SPECT CT Campaign

The East Kootenay Foundation for Health (EKFH) is so grateful for a wonderful donation of $45,000 from the Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary (CHCA). These funds will top off the $1.2 million campaign that the EKFH was running for the SPECT CT. Melanie Dodgson, President of the Board for the CHCA said “The Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary realized that the COVID 19 Pandemic has put a financial strain on most of the local businesses, we knew that the SPECT CT was an important piece of equipment for the EKR Hospital, we were happy and grateful that we were able to provide the money needed to complete the EKFH fund raising.”

Brenna Baker, Executive Director for the EKFH commented, “I was so excited to get the call from the Auxiliary. I was worried with COVID and the unknown future that it would take a long time to finish this campaign. We are so very fortunate to have organizations and community members that are so giving! We are very thankful to all of the Cranbrook Health Care Auxiliary volunteers and the hard work they put into raising funds for health care in our community. On behalf of the EKFH Board and Staff we want to thank all of you!” The CHCA is a volunteer based organization that has 220 members. They operate a very successful thrift store in Cranbrook, a gift shop located in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH), and they also run the volunteer program at the EKRH.

The SPECT CT Campaign began in September of 2019 and was to run until December 2020. Even through tough times the East Kootenay communities stepped up once again and the campaign ended 6 months ahead of schedule. All of the funds raised came through individual donations, corporate donations, and non-profit donations. This is great news for all residents of the East Kootenay. The SPECT CT combines the 3 dimensional functional imaging of nuclear medicine with the anatomical accuracy of a CT. It will help diagnose, track and assist in setting up treatment plans for cancer, heart disease, diabetes, stroke and the list goes on. It will save lives!

The East Kootenay Foundation for Health supports equipment and patient comfort throughout the East Kootenay Region including Cranbrook, Kimberley, Creston, Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, Invermere and Golden. Thank you to everyone who donated to the SPECT CT!
