Mother’s Day Gift Basket Auction a Success, Dad’s Next?

Submitted by EKFH on 14-05-2012

Cranbrook, BC… Last week the East Kootenay Regional Hospital’s lobby was a flurry of activity thanks to the generosity of eighteen health-care departments who put up gift baskets for auction for Mother’s Day. Staff and managers of various units created unique themed baskets all in support of the fundraising drive to bring a digital stereotactic mammography unit to EKRH as part of the A Clear View campaign.

All week long the bidding was steady and as the last call for the auction was made, the clear winner wasn’t just the basket owners. Thanks to the outstanding generosity of bidders a total of $3,735 is being dedicated to the campaign in support of many individuals who may face a breast cancer diagnosis.

“One of the major highlights for me about the gift basket auction was witnessing the smiles, the laughter and the camaraderie of all the different people and departments who participated,” shares Donna Grainger, EKFH Executive Director. “ Having fun and making a difference all at the same time made this a very special gift for everyone who works here in the hospital and especially for the diagnostic imaging department who will ultimately receive the equipment,” adds Grainger.

The campaign’s fundraising moves forward from one honouring mothers to an individual A Clear View fundraiser with a focus on Father’s Day. Sandra Elliott a registered nurse in the EKRH Operating Room is presenting a raffle for a chance to win two tickets to see Garth Brooks live in concert at the Calgary Stampede (July 12 – row 21 on the floor @ 7:30 pm).
