EKFH & EKC to Focus on Seniors for 3rd Annual Starlite Campaign

Submitted by EKFH on 10-11-2010

CRANBROOK, BC…    On Thursday, November 25 at 5:00 pm,  East Kootenay Community Credit Union (EKC), the Star Sponsor, of  East Kootenay Foundation for Health’s  3rd Annual Starlite Campaign will launch the campaign by lighting the first of 17 beautifully handcrafted stars atop the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

This year’s first star takes on special meaning as EKC and EKFH join together to celebrate “Seniors are our Stars” to help raise much needed funds for seniors facilities and programs throughout the East Kootenay.

Jody Burk, CEO of EKC, states, “EKC has committed $5,000 annually to EKFH for another three years.  Last year EKC gave back over $98,000 to our members and community. EKFH contribution to our communities is very important and I encourage our members to consider donating to this cause.”

No matter what people say our parents and grandparents will always be the best and most loved people in our lives.  They are always willing to love, give and do anything for us.  They are always there when we need them and we feel comforted and loved in their presence.

This holiday season EKC and EKFH are encouraging people to share their gratitude for a senior in their life or someone else they love by dedicating a small star in their honour.   To do so you simply need to make a tax-deductible donation EKFH and the Starlite Campaign.  Small die-cut stars made in honour of someone will be hung in the lobby of the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and your tax-deductible gift will go towards not only  lighting the beautiful blue custom made stars on the hospital’s roof line but help enhance patient care in the East Kootenay with a special focus on the comfort needs of our seniors.

In the past, public donations have assisted EKFH in providing funding for recreational programs (sing-along DVDs, televisions, garden, woodworking, cooking & craft projects), medical equipment  such as roho mattresses, high profile chairs & tables, weigh scales, bed alarms, commodes, blanket warmers, broda shower chairs and comfort items such as sit to stand recliners, sleeping lounge chairs, in-patient room furniture and much more.

EKFH fundraises to support seniors’ facilities and programs at Creston (hospital & Swan Valley Lodge), the Columbia Valley (Invermere hospital & Columbia House), Golden (hospital & Durand Manor), the Elk Valley (hospital), Cranbrook (regional hospital &  Dr. FW Green Home) and Kimberley (Special Care Home).

A donation of $25 or more lights one bulb and for every $5,000 a Star will be lit with a goal of reaching $85,000 (17 stars) by the end of January.   A tax-deductible donation to EKFH’s Starlite Campaign will help to maintain funding to continue to provide excellence in health care through the East Kootenay.    Donate online at www.ekfh.ca, in person at East Kootenay Foundation for Health or at East Kootenay Community Credit Union branches in Cranbrook, Fernie and Elkford.   For more information contact EKFH at 1-877-489-6481 or 250-489-6481.
