Details L-R: Chair Linda Berukoff of East Kootenay Foundation for Health joins Erica Phillips, Health Service Administrator, Golden/Invermere and EZ Rock Radio Morning Host, Garry Irving live on air for the 2011 Astral Media Radiothon. Together with Donna Grainger (Executive Director EKFH) and Dallas Matheson (EZ Rock Radio) the group spent the day encouraging public donations to start off a $60,000 portable ultrasound fundraising campaign for the Golden & District Hospital.

The benefits of a portable ultrasound for the hospital are many such as a first glimpse of a developing baby in the womb or to determine the risk of heart attack, doctors use ultrasound widely in women and men, children and seniors to gain advanced insights into the inner workings of the body. Heart disease, stroke, abnormalities in the abdomen or reproductive system, and more – all exhibit telltale signs that a portable ultrasound can help to detect.

This is the second visit to the radio station by EKFH with a goal to demonstrate its mission to provide funding to assist the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and other community health care facilities in meeting the needs of the region. Presently EKFH holds funds in trust for the Golden Hospital and Durand Manor. Gifts that are directed to these specific facilities remain allocated for Golden. Previously the foundation has purchased equipment for the two Golden facilities with unrestricted funding from its general fund and most recently its annual Starlite Campaign for Excellence in Health Care.

Thanks to Astral Media and the generosity of many Golden and area donors the radiothon has built a strong foundation of $5,300 to kickoff the $60,000 campaign.

Please consider a gift today to help make the dream of a portable ultrasound a reality for the Golden Hospital. To make a donation drop into the Golden hospital, mail to 835 9th St N RR 2, Golden, BC V0A 1H2 or make a secured on-line donation at www.ekfh.ca ~ donate now, select Golden Hospital.
